Kuro House is an extension and refurbishment to a characterful, mock tudor family home in Northampton. The project reimagines the arrangement of spaces on the ground floor and provides a new kitchen and dining space which extends out in the garden.
The extension is rotated 45 degrees in plan which allows its two main windows to face both the newly designed terrace as well as the japanese maple tree which has beautiful seasonal changes.
‘Kuro’ which is Japanese for ‘black’, is inspired by the expression of the monochrome timber on Tudor architecture and “Sugi Ban” burnt timber technique from Japan which is used on the extension cladding.
