The brilliantly named Rock Road in south Cambridge is famous for being the childhood home of Roger Waters of Pink Floyd. This project involved the refurbishment and extension of a typical, solid-walled 1950’s home.

Typical of buildings of this era, it suffered from poor insulation, damp and ventilation issues. Working with our expertise of the passivhaus “enerPHit” standard, we thickened the external building envelope and integrated new high-performance glazing throughout, bringing the building into the 21st Century.

In doing so, the home has been given a new identity, referencing the traditional residential architecture of Cambridge as well as adding a more contemporary style.

Working with stepped brick details and areas of sedum roof, the ground floor of the building is seen as solid mass which acts as a threshold with the garden, integrating both plants and a window seat to sit and enjoy nature.

The interior has bespoke joinery designed by rock, unlocking of all usable space and ensuring a consistent design quality throughout.
